2013 Women's Soccer Schedule!

The women look to defend their back-to-back AMCC titles in 2013 as they approach the upcoming season. The season starts off with a scrimmage against Division II Mercyhurst leading into the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. This year's tournament pairs the women against two strong Ohio-sides in Baldwin Wallace and Capital University. The women will then travel less than an hour up I-90 to play Utica and SUNY Fredonia in the Fredonia State Tournament.

The women will also play the Western Pennsylvania schools with the likes of Westminster, Grove City, and W&J before they enter AMCC play. The Lady Lions start conference play as they face-off with Franciscan on September 28th.

Team Banquet and Award Ceremony

Today was a nice day for our team to briefly reflect on the successes of the 2012 season. Although we are continually looking to better ourselves as a team on a daily basis it was nice to recognize the accomplishments of the team in the 2012 season. A group of around 60 including our coaching staff, players, and players' families enjoyed some great food at Logan House on the campus of Penn State Behrend.
Some nice words were said by senior captain Valerie Wagner at the banquet.

Then it was down to the Junker Center to watch the Behrend Lions women's basketball team compete against Franciscan. To make the day even better the women's basketball team got another nice AMCC win!!
At half-time the players were recognized by the crowd for their AMCC Championship winning 2012 season.

As a New Year resolution for 2013, we are working at keeping our blog updated more regularly. 

These pictures of the field are a few months old now but they show they excellent playing facilities that Penn State Behrend offers its soccer athletes!!

We will have a few home night games in 2013 and it will be great to play under the lights!!

The nice part is we still have a new bathroom/concession stand complex to be added this fall. 

AMCC Championship Game 2012

This is footage from our 2012 AMCC Championship victory over a strong Pitt-Bradford team.
After being 1-0 down in the first half the team rallied to tie the game 1-1 before half time with a nice goal from Julia Schroeck after a great run from Valerie Wagner. No more goals were scored until the second overtime when Melissa Huff capped off an excellent freshmen year by scoring the game-winning goal giving Behrend our second AMCC Championship in two years and our eighth overall.

2012 Women's Soccer Year in Review!

2012 Penn State Behrend Women's Soccer

·         8^th AMCC Championship out of 16

·         5^th trip to the NCAA Tournament

·         2 players named NSCAA Great Lakes All-RegionThird Team – Julia Schroeck and Valerie Wagner

·         Earned a team GPA of 3.16 with 6 players earning 3.5 GPA or higher – Freshman Abbie Schuster earned a team high 3.98 GPA

·         Overall record of 12-9 with a stellar AMCC conference record of 8-1

·         Team led the conference in goals scored with 26, and Goals per Game with 2.89 per game

·         Placed second in the conference in Assists with 15, and Assists per game with 1.67 per game

·         Team posted a 0.67 goals allowed per game,  led by Freshman Goal Keeper Taylor Troyan, which placed them as the second strongest defense in the conference

·         Senior Julia Schroeck led the conference in goals with 7

·         Senior Valerie Wagner recorded the second most assists in the conference with 5, and named to the 2012 AMCC All-Conference Sportsmanship Team

·         8 players earned AMCC All-Conference awards for their excellent play during the season, the most out of any team in the conference. 

·         Head Coach Patrick O’Driscoll named AMCC Co-Coach of the Year, and he currently stands at 99 career wins for the program

·         Senior Valerie Wagner finished her career 1^st in program history in games played (85), 3^rd in Points (85), 4^th in Goals (32), and 3^rd in Assists (21)

·         Senior Julia Schroeck finished her career with 83 games played, ranking her tied for 6^th in program history for career games played

Soccer Stadium Nearing Completion!!!

Bleachers and press box have been getting installed this week. Scoreboard and flagpole are up too.
We are hoping the lights will be ready soon.
Penn State Behrend has spent approximately $3million on creating this wonderful environment for our student-athletes to play in. Bathrooms and concession stand are planned for the spring to be ready for fall 2013.
A great college soccer venue for any level!!!
