PSB Works Through CMU

The Lions played their toughest game of the regular season at Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday. Carnegie Mellon University is ranked 4th in the NSCAA national rankings poll and 1st in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings Poll. Penn State Behrend now holds a record of 13-4-1 vs Carnegie Mellon's record at 11-1. In the past two years, CMU has made it to the NCAA playoffs and qualified for the NCAA quarterfinals in 2012.

With that being said, the Lions knew they had a tough game to play against the Tartans. Unfortunately PSB fell behind early in the game from a corner kick goal 3 minutes into the game to put the Tartans up 1-0. The second goal came in the 19th minute of play from a quick cross into the box that was put away by the Tartans to go ahead 2-0. Although the Lions were playing hard to end the first half they were unable to stop a free kick that ripped into the top left corner of the goal from a free kick, giving CMU the 3-0 lead going into halftime.

After some words from Coach Patrick and a few changes in the Lions system, the Lions took the field to begin the second half.

The second half went very well for the Lions, PSB outshot CMU 2-1 and had the better of the play. PSB was able to shut down the Tartans offense and create chances on the counter attack. Ally Lonas and Leah Morra were able to keep CMU's outside attackers from creating goal scoring chances. The changes that PSB made were executed by the team and made for a very even matchup during the second half. By keeping the Tartans to one SOG, the Lions ended the game with the 3-0 loss but came off the field having played a great second half against a very good CMU team.

The Lions return to action this Saturday at home against La Roche as they look to win their first conference playoff game of the 2014 season.

Lonas, Belack Net Four in Win Over Mount

Ally Lonas and Olivia Belack both netted a pair goals in the 5-1 victory over Mount Aloysius. The grass field made for a physical matchup but PSB stuck to their style of play to record the win.

Ally Lonas started the scoring only ten minutes into the first half. Lonas scored both of her goals within a minute of each other. The first goal would come from a cross by Alex Bilka and the second would go unassisted after hard work and persistence led to Ally creating her own scoring opportunity. The following ten minutes would be all PSB with most of the play in the Lions attacking third. Olivia Belack would give Behrend the push they needed late in the first half. Belack would score two back-to-back goals in less than a minute. PSB walked into halftime with confidence.

The second half would become a bit more physical with the Lions up 4-0 but was managed well by backs - Maddie Monte and Rachel Weyand. With possession and hard work running through the team, the Lions would give up only one goal in the game and go on to score a fifth to top off their win at Mount.  The final goal of the game came from a through ball by Ally Lonas that found Jordan Oberlander behind the defense. Jordan would slot a shot past Mount goal keeper to end the game with the 5-1 win.

Lions Keep Shutout Streak in Win Over D'Youville

Penn State Behrend kept their shutout streak alive after defeating D'Youville 4-0. Alex Bilka played one of her best games of the season by netting three goals to help the Lions top D'Youville. After a stellar performance from Behrends back-line, PSB extends their shutout streak to four games.

Alex Bilka jumped on the Spartans early by scoring the first goal of the match in the 9th minute of play. A laser pass came from Olivia Belack that crossed along the inside of the penalty box, where Alex Bilka put the pass away for the 1-0 lead. Olivia Belack would then add to the lead by netting another, making the score 2-0 with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. Huge defensive stops came from PSB's back four, only giving the Spartans two shots on goal in the first half. The Lions would walk into halftime with the better of the first half, recording twelve SOG against the Spartans two.

Bilka would continue to strive following halftime. She was able to run at D'Youville defenders creating mismatches and scoring opportunities for the Lions. Out of the fifteen Lions SOG, Bilka would score two more from outside of the penalty box. Both shots ripped past Spartans goal keeper giving the Lions a 4-0 lead with only 20 minutes remaining in the game. PSB would go on to win the game, keeping the Spartans from recording a shot on goal in the second half.

The Lions return to action Saturday at Mt. Aloysius for the final game of the AMCC regular season.

Lonas Keeps Lions Rolling

The Lions kept their winning streak rolling following their win against Pitt-Greensburg this past weekend. PSB netted three in the first half putting the Bobcats on their heels. The fourth goal was netted in the 65th minute to seal the game.

Ally Lonas scored the first two goals of the game in the 13th and 35th minute of play. Those two goals gave Lonas four goals on the season. Amanda Donohue would go on to score her first conference goal of the season to give the Lions some insurance going into the second half. Amanda skinned two Pitt-Greensburg defenders until taking a shot on net that flew by the Bobcats goalie.

Throughout the second half PSB kept Pitt-Greensburg away from Taylor Troyan, with the SOG recording 29 for PSB and only 3 for the Bobcats. This SOG differential would lead to yet another shutout by Penn State Behrend, the teams eight on the season. Ally Lonas wouldn't stop scoring in the second half, she netted a third to record the first hat trick of the season for the Lions. Ally's third goal of the game gave PSB a 4-0 lead with only 25 minutes left in regular time and ending any hope for a Greensburg comeback.

The Lions looks to top D'Youville tomorrow away at 5:00pm.

Oberlander Ignites PSB

Penn State Behrend recorded their second consecutive shutout against Medaille this past Tuesday. PSB's attacking three and midfield helped jump on Medaille early to seal the victory.

The very talented and quick Jordan Oberlander, ignited the Lions early in the game. She used her keen vision and athletic ability to head a direct kick from Ally Lonas into the back of the goal. Jordan would then score a second goal in the fifteenth minute of play, giving Penn State Behrend the 2-0 lead. The goal came from a driven ball across the box from Olivia Belack, where Jordan Oberlander took a one time shot past Medaille goalkeeper. Jordan would keep her fire blazing as she took on Medaille defenders later in the half; after skinning two Madaille backs she was tripped up in the box and awarded a penalty kick. The PK was executed by Olivia Belack to give the Lions a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

PSB would go on to complete the shutout in the second half. Good team defense and possession of the ball helped to keep the Mavericks scoreless. The Lions came across a few great chances but weren't able to put any away.

Taylor Troyan recorded her third shutout of the season and looks to continue the winning streak today against Pitt-Greensburg.
