Rachel Mueller & Sam Vasy Named to NSCAA All-Region Team


Seniors Rachel Mueller and Sam Vasy have been named to the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Third Team.

It is the first time Mueller and Vasy have earned All-Region honors. Mueller also became the program's first player to earn Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Defender of the Year this season. The two-time All-Conference choice, anchored the defense that allowed 1.17 goals per game and helped the team earn eight shutouts.

Vasy caps her career on the All-Region team after earning All-AMCC accolades three of her four years. The midfielder had her best season with nine goals and six assists for 24 points to be named to the All-Conference first team. Vasy finished her career with 16 goals and 16 assists for 48 points, along with seven game-winning goals.

Mueller and Vasy join the list of Behrend All-Region players that include Stephanie Bowen (2005), Kayla Frost (2009), Valerie Wagner (2012), and Julia Schroeck (2012).

Maddie Monte Named to NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-Region Team

Penn State Behrend Junior Maddie Monte has been named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's Scholar All-East Region team, as an honorable-mention selection.  While carrying a 3.63 GPA in Interdisciplinary Business and Engineering at Behrend, Monte is a three-time AMCC All-Academic selection, a team captain, and is a member of the Lambda Sigma Honor Society.  On the field, Monte was one of four players to start in every single contest for the Lions this past fall.  She contributed to an impressive 1.17 goals against average along with 8 shutouts as the Behrend Lions won their third straight AMCC Championship. Along with her busy academic and soccer schedules, Monte has also interned with both Westinghouse and Lord Corporations during her time at PSB.




Congratulations Maddie. The players and coaches are extremely proud of your accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at Penn State Behrend.
